As a group of young people we miss a source of certain information that we need, but are unable to acquire them. The mentioned info may already be accessible through existing communication channels, but is less useful. The young are using contemporary communication methods, including internet. That's why we started thinking about youth portal. Along with the portal we came to an idea of internet radio, which expands usability of portal with entertainment and info. Let's see an illustrative example of new medium usage. The official info published by the Universities about their programs and terms of studying may often be too idealistic and unreal. Our plan is to conduct series of interviews with Slovenian and eventually foreign students, willing to speak out about the real situation out there. That would mean better overview for high school students in process of university selection. Our leading principle is freedom of speech, independancy and objective censure-free informing.

The portal with radio isn't only a source of info, but also enables multi-direction info flow. That's a unique chance for the young to express themselves, to comment variour events and topics. That�s how the young will be able to be actively involved into civil society. Generally known characteristics of contemporary youth are living in safe home environment, the main communication media among the young is internet, we are individualists and are becoming more and more passive considering broader social problematics. We tend to use the youth�s passiveness in a way so that they would be able to make a differenc without changing their preferred lifestyle.

Why do we want to conduct the project

Internet is a universal medium which enables info exchange regardless the geografical position of an individual. The website under development is going to try to connect the young from Slovenia and other countries. The portal offers nomerous possibilities. Searching info with peers, your own artistic, sports aor any other youth activity. Every single one portal user will get an oppertunity to cricitaly co-design portal contents and actively prepare arcticles about concerts, reports from travels etc. In this way everyone will help popularise youth culture among different audiences.

The young need time and place for personal growth and releasing of creative energy. The portal will enable youth community which doesn�t impose to uniterested and helps to the young. On the portal we will publish advice on youth employement, inform them about employement procedures and help them with writing an effective CV. But that�s only one of the numerous possibilities.
